Confidence intervals are ranges for estimation that allow us to say, “we are 95% (or another percent) sure that our population mean is between these two numbers”. The issue when we are using a sample of a population is that we could get a biased sample, if for example we had three points we would not be too sure how accurate our sample mean reflected the population mean.
